About Me
A Not So Brief Personal History
I grew up on a small dairy farm in the middle of next to nowhere. When I was younger I was certain I would end up taking over the farm for my dad, just like he did for his dad. That is not what ended up happening as life had different plans.
From a young age I could be found drawing everywhere, always. Dad would marvel over how I could be completely content for hours with printer paper and anything that would make a mark. Pencil, pen, highlighter, crayons, markers, you name it. Mom was glad I never tried drawing on the walls.
Going to college felt like a dream that might never happen. I wanted to go, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to afford to go. Studying art in college was not something I thought I was even allowed to do. Surprisingly to me, both happened. With my parents’ full support behind me, too. Are you shocked? It’s ok if you are, I’m still shocked (in a good way).
Of course, this meant that before ultimately deciding to go to college for graphic design and illustration, I looked into other areas to study. For practicality, of course. Here’s a list of what I considered:
Engineering
Publishing
Marine Biologist
Bench Jeweler
There were more, but those are the ones I spent the most time researching. It always came down to if I had the resources to go, how far away from home (my dog) it would be, and a number of other things. Mostly fears and insecurities. That, and I would always go back to thinking of when I was little, wishing I could draw all day and be able to make a living.
Way too many google searches later I found the Graphic Design and Illustration program at Madison College. The rest is history filled with with social anxiety, learning to use photoshop, and meeting a lot of inspiring artists, teachers and fellow students alike.
I still have a hard time believing that I've been able to do this. These days I'm illustrating in my free time and excited to see what else life has in store for me. If you're curious about my illustrations, my instagram for that is @blu__thursday. My social media and email are linked below, please feel free to reach out and say hi! I live off of constructive feedback if you feel so inclined. Thank you for reading through this block of text, I hope to hear from you.
